Music Appreciation
The Music Appreciation Group, like so many others, has not been able to meet in the way we used to in those fondly-remembered, pre-Covid days. We may well try a Zoom Meeting at some point, but that platform is not really designed for conveying quality music.
However, we are not techno-phobes and we DID meet recently (obeying the rule-of-six, of course) in order to record voice memos introducing a wide variety of music to the theme of “The Best of British”. These we e-mailed to the Community Radio team, who spliced the voice memos with the relevant Spotify[1] tracks to create an hour-long programme which they broadcast, over the internet, in Carnival Weekend. We had a diverse range of choices, including: The Beatles, Gilbert and Sullivan, Ralph McTell, Karl Jenkins, Flanders and Swan, Elgar, Coldplay …
If you would like to listen to the programme you still can; and you can find out what we do in this group. Most of us fit Sir Malcolm Sargent’s observation that many English people (like yours truly) “Don’t understand Music… they just love the noise it makes! ” .
